The alpine gastronomical goodies of Grenoble
Sponsored by small traditional restaurants, as well as by glitzy establishments with high-cost dishes, the Grenoble cuisine has something for every taste and in a variety of flavors. The Grenoble specialties are many, and some of them, quite obscurely named, so choose carefully.
Fish and game dishes are probably the best-known features of Grenoble’s gastronomy. If you don’t eat that much meat you should try the potato grain Savoyard, with eggs, cheese and milk - one of the best Grenoble dishes; try the Dauphiné version as well, with no cheese and bouillon instead of milk.
Don’t leave this gourmand’s paradise of a city without first trying the fine Grenoble cheeses: Chevrotin des Alpes, Dauphinois or Reblochon. The Grenoble deserts won’t let you down, neither: the local walnut cake or the gâteau de Savoie should come high on your gastronomical priority list.
As for Grenoble beverages, remember to ask for the famous Chartreuse liqueur prepared by the monks of the Abbey of Grande Chartreuse. All Grenoble meals accompanied by this elixir will be twice as tasty.
